How To Get A Venture Capitalist To Fund Your Small Business Idea
Starting up a new business can be a costly endeavor. If you don't have sufficient funding behind you, it could make the difference between the success or failure of your business. There are venture capitalists who are eager to assist new businesses and get a return on their investment which will make it worthwhile for them. The competition to reach venture capitalists can be intense. There are certain things you can do to put yourself in the best position to pitch to a venture capitalist for funding for your business. You only get one chance to make a good impression so take the time to give yourself the best opportunity possible to get your business off the ground.
Step 1
Develop a presentation on what your company has to offer, the benefits of your product or services and why your company is better than your competitors. Focus on the strengths of your business, your employees and your sales team.
Step 2
Give a conservative but realistic estimate on the sales you hope to achieve and what means you are going to employ to reach your goals.
Step 3
Discuss the challenges you have had which have put you in the position of needing money. Discuss how you plan on building your business to a profitable position and how you are going to repay this investment.
Step 4
Discuss with the venture capitalist what he or she is looking for in return. Pinpoint the amount which is expected and the time frame which is acceptable to both of you.
Step 5
Be prepared. Have all of your information handy in case the investor asks you any questions or wants clarification on any figures. Try to keep your pitch to about 30 minutes. Be ready for another 30 minutes to ask any questions as well as to answer any. Position yourself as a leader in your industry and present your pitch with confidence. If the venture capitalist senses any doubts, he or she may not be inclined to invest in your business.
